Detected mysterious signals 2.4 million light years from Earth
A mysterious X-ray signal of 24 billion light-years away from Earth has been detected. Scientists say that the unidentified signal is in the Perseus galaxy cluster is "intensity at a very specific wavelength of X-ray light." Whereas the origin is unknown, the perspective of the astrophysicist Ezra theorises is decayed by sterile neutrinos and has been proposed as a candidate for the preparation of dark matter species.
Astronomers believe that the dark matter constitutes 85% of the material in the universe, but the light that does not emit or absorb, like matter, constitutes planets, stars, and galaxies. "We know that the interpretation of dark matter is a long shot. If we are right, the rewards will be enormous," said Bulbul, a postdoctoral researcher at the Smithsonian Astrophysics Center at Harvard University, in a statement.
He went on to say, "So we have to keep testing this explanation and see if it needs us." Bulbul's team took 17 days to take a look at signals from NASA's Chandra X-ray Observatory and the European Space Agency's XMM-Newton after more than 10 years of observation.
