MTU Receives Order for Turbine and Diesel Generator Sets of Three Type 26 Global Combat Ships

Recently, Rolls-Royce's MTU company announced that it will supply steam turbines and diesel generator sets for the first new global warships of the Royal Navy. It is reported that 12 of the MTU diesel generator sets will be delivered to the main contractor of the warship, BAE Systems, for the first three Type 26 global combat ships to be commissioned. This means that the core components of this frigate, including the propulsion system, will come from the Luo-Ro Company.
MTU Receives Order for Turbine and Diesel Generator Sets of Three Type 26 Global Combat Ships
According to the contract, each combat ship will be equipped with four MTU diesel generator sets, driven by a 20V 4000 M53B diesel engine; each warship will also use a Luo-Roy MT30 turbine. In the propulsion system combined by diesel or steam turbines (CODELOG), the MTU diesel generator will provide power for the warship's electronic equipment and cruise propulsion, and the Luo-Ro turbine will be used for propulsion during high-speed navigation.
It is reported that the Type 26 global combat ship is the first new design ship of the British Navy surface ship to adopt the MTU engine. It is also the first time that Luo Luo has provided the MTU propulsion system for the warships, which can meet the IMO 3 emission requirements. Each diesel generator set has a power of 3015 kWm and is equipped with an exhaust aftertreatment system and selective catalytic reduction (SCR) technology.
The Type 26 global combat ship is also the third project of the British Navy to use the MTU engine. Luo Luo will also provide 4000 series diesel generator sets for the modification of Type 23 frigates. In addition, Astute class submarines have also used MTU diesel generator sets.
