Transmission classification
Manual Transmission (MT), also called manual transmission, means that the shift lever (commonly known as the “stopâ€) must be manually turned to change the gear meshing position in the transmission and change the transmission ratio so as to achieve the purpose of variable speed. The manual shift must be depressing the clutch when operating, so that the shift lever can be activated.
In general, if the driver's skill is good, the manually-shifted car will be faster than the automatic car when accelerating and overtaking, and it will also save fuel.
Automatic transmission (AT)
An automatic transmission (abbreviated as AT) utilizes a planetary gear mechanism for shifting gears, and it can automatically shift gears according to the degree of accelerator pedal and the change in the vehicle speed. Drivers only need to use the accelerator pedal to control the speed.
Although the automatic transmission does not have a clutch, there are many clutches in the automatic transmission. These clutches can be automatically separated or closed in response to changes in the vehicle speed, thereby achieving the purpose of automatic transmission.
Manual/automatic transmission
The manual/automatic transmission was first introduced by the Porsche depot in Germany on the 911 model, called Tiptronic, which allows high-performance sports cars to not be limited by the traditional automatic transmission restraint, allowing drivers to enjoy manual shift types. This type of car has "+" and "-" selection gears on its gear. In the D range, it is possible to freely change the downshift (-) or upshift (+) as if it were a manual shift. Drivers can force downshifts like manual gears before entering corners, and low and medium throttles when cornering.
Nowadays, the "+" and "-" shift buttons are added to the steering wheel of the automatic car, so that the driver can move the steering wheel away from the steering wheel.
Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT)
The CVT was first invented by the Dutch Van Doorne's. The continuously variable transmission system does not shift gears like a manual transmission or an automatic transmission. Instead, it uses two pulleys and a steel belt to shift gears. The transmission ratio can be changed at will, and there is no sudden feeling of shifting.
The CVT is a kind of automatic transmission, but it can overcome the shortcomings of “abrupt shiftâ€, slow throttle response, and high fuel consumption of ordinary automatic transmissions.
