Xanthate selectivity
Alkaline earth metal (e.g. calcium, magnesium, barium, etc.) xanthate soluble. Xanthate has no capture effect on alkaline earth metal minerals such as fluorite CaF 2 , calcite CaCO 3 , barite BaSO 4 , etc. Xanthate ions can form poorly soluble compounds with many heavy metals and precious metal ions. The order in which the various metals and xanthate metal xanthate are insoluble is roughly arranged according to the size of the solubility product:
The first category: mercury , gold, secret, antimony , copper , lead , cobalt , nickel, etc. (the solubility products are less than 10 -10 );
The second category: zinc , iron , manganese, etc. (the solubility product is less than 10 -2 ).
This property can be used to roughly estimate the order of capture of xanthate on heavy metals and precious metal sulfide minerals. The more difficult it is to dissolve a metal xanthate, the more easily the corresponding sulfide mineral is captured by xanthate. Another important significance of understanding the solubility properties of metal xanthate is to regulate the composition of ions in the slurry and the interaction between the agents. For example, many ores of polymetallic (such as copper, lead, zinc, iron) sulfide ore often have secondary copper minerals, in which case the slurry contains Cu 2+ , and Cu 2+ and xanthate ions Forming insoluble copper xanthate:
Cu 2+ +4ROCSS - →Cu 2+ (ROCSS) 2 ↓+(ROCSS) 2
