Groundbreaking of Continental Group's New R&D Center in Singapore
Continental has announced that its new R&D center in Singapore is beginning to break ground. The company held a grand foundation stone laying ceremony.
The Continental Group stated that the expansion of global business, especially in Asia, has increased the company’s engineering capabilities. Therefore, Continental Group decided to spend 21 million euros (about 29.3 million US dollars) to build this new R&D center.
It is reported that the new center is located at Boon Keng Road in Singapore. It will be completed in April 2012 and will cover a total area of ​​4,500 square meters. The center includes a seven-storey office and R&D building with a total floor area of ​​10,170 square meters and is expected to accommodate 860 employees. In the future, the center building may be further increased as needed. By then, the center will be able to accommodate 1,000 employees.
The Continental Group stated that the new center building will consist of three parts: office space for R&D and related operations; automotive product inspection and testing center and reliability testing laboratory.
In addition, Continental Group also stated that in the future, from the concept of products to finished products, the entire process will be carried out in the new center. Until the final realization of mass production of dashboards and displays, multimedia and telematics equipment, radio navigation equipment, in-car modules and control systems.
It is reported that the center will absorb management and engineering experts. In the future, the center will become a major R&D engineering center of the Continental Group that is competitive globally.
