Sino-Kazakhstan oil pipeline officially transports oil to China

The China-Kazakhstan oil pipeline officially began shipping oil to China on May 25. About 3:10 am Beijing time, crude oil began to arrive at the metering station in Xinjiang Alashankou, China. This is the first time China has realized the import of crude oil from overseas by pipeline.

It is understood that 50% of the crude oil delivered to China by Sino-Kazakhstan oil pipelines comes from the Zananaur oilfield and Aktobe oilfield in Kazakhstan, and 50% comes from Russian oil fields in the Caspian Sea area. At 19:32 on May 23, with the official opening of No. 40 valve in the Kazakhstan-China oil pipeline, a total length of 962.2 kilometers of Sino-Kazakhstan oil pipeline was opened.

Yin Juntai, deputy general manager of China National Petroleum Exploration and Development Corporation, said that the Sino-Kazakhstan oil pipeline has officially started oil transmission operations, not only providing China with a safe and reliable source of oil imports, but also enabling Kazakhstan and Russia to obtain a new stable oil export market. Kappelkin, vice president of Kazakhstan's oil and gas pipeline company, said that the operation of China-Kazakhstan oil pipeline is another example of mutually beneficial cooperation between Kazakhstan and China.

According to reports, the Sino-Kazakhstan oil pipeline started in September 2004 and was completed in November 2005. It starts from Atasu in Kazakhstan in the west and leads to Alashankou in China in the east, with a designed annual oil transmission capacity of 20 million tons. China and Kazakhstan jointly provided 700 million U.S. dollars for China-Kazakhstan oil pipeline construction. According to the agreement, 10 million tons of oil will be transported in the initial period of pipeline operations and 20 million tons in 2010. Kazakhstan and Russia will each provide 50% of their oil delivery.

At present, the 252-kilometer-long oil pipeline from Xinjiang Alashankou to Dushanzi in Xinjiang, which is connected to the China-Kazakhstan oil pipeline, has also been fully connected, and has fully entered into the crude oil state of the Sino-Kazakhstan oil pipeline. In Dushanzi, China is building a refinery and ethylene plant with a total investment of 27.2 billion yuan, and plans to complete it by 2008.
