The average annual growth rate of Chinese-origin automobile and parts exports reached 104%

In recent years, the rapidly developing Wuhan automobile industry is stepping up efforts to expand overseas markets. Yesterday, it was learned that Wuhan, as a national automobile and parts export base, has achieved an average annual growth rate of 104% in total exports in the past four years.

In August 2006, Wuhan City was awarded the first batch of national auto and auto parts export bases by the Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China. In the past four years, Wuhan's auto export performance has shown a V-shaped reversal: In addition to the 2009 global financial crisis impact on the decline of 43% year-on-year, in 2007, 2008 and the first half of this year, year-on-year increase of 178.2%, 66.3% and 214.6%.

Although the growth rate is gratifying, the total amount of auto exports is still a “little cake”. In the first half of this year, Wuhan's total exports of 157 auto parts and components export enterprises were only US$147 million, accounting for 3.3% of the city's total exports.

According to reports, the export of Wuhan export base vehicles is mainly commercial vehicles, mainly in developing countries. The “Dongfeng” brand enjoyed a high reputation overseas. The light trucks exported to Iran, Vietnam, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Peru accounted for 76.8% of the market. The medium- and heavy-duty trucks exported to Iran and Vietnam accounted for 89.7% of the market.

In the first half of this year, the output value of the Wuhan automobile industry reached 60.6 billion yuan, which is expected to exceed 100 billion yuan in the whole year. However, industry experts pointed out that the Han-produced automobiles are mainly sold domestically, and only the opening of the sedan's export gates can boost the export of the entire industry. At present, Fengshen Sedan has started to lay out an export strategy, and it is expected that by 2015 it will be able to reach an annual export volume of 50,000 vehicles. After the Shenlong Third Plant is put into production, it will also export 20,000 vehicles a year.
