Trucks lead the biggest contribution to the export of trucks in 2008

The number of exports was 257,907, accounting for 37.369% of the total export volume of automobiles, and the export amount was 318.759604 million US dollars, accounting for 33.114% of the total automobile exports. This was a response to the truck exports in 2008. Recently, the reporter learned from the Automobile Branch of the China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Machinery and Electronic Products that trucks are leading the export of automobiles regardless of the quantity or amount of exports.

Heavy truck exits

Among truck exports, trucks with more than 20 tons and tractor-trailers contributed the most. “This is a very obvious trend of China's truck exports in the past two years. The number of heavy truck exports has increased significantly, and the export value has firmly occupied the top position for truck exports.” Fu Peizhao, deputy secretary-general of the Automotive Branch of China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Machinery and Electronic Products, told reporters .

In 2008, the number of trucks with more than 20 tons exported was 36,140, an increase of 43.06% year-on-year, and the export amount was 1,812,021,200 USD, an increase of 58.1% year-on-year, while the average unit price of export vehicles increased by 10.51% year-on-year to reach 41,007.23 USD per vehicle. “The rise in the average export unit price is not only a factor in the increase in raw material prices in the world in 2008, but also indicates to some extent the value of the Chinese heavy trucks in overseas markets.” Analysts from China National Heavy Duty Truck Group said. In the special-purpose vehicle market, if the semi-trailer trucks are removed from the customs statistics, the export of special-purpose vehicles will continue the pattern of past small-scale tractors. Among them, the performance of concrete mixer trucks is the most prominent. In 2008, 3263 vehicles were exported, an increase of 21.89% year-on-year.

Fu Peizhao believes that in the past two years, heavy truck companies have been exporting rapidly and have already picked up the banner of Chinese auto exports. Sinotruk, FAW Jiefang and Futian have shown strong market competitiveness in overseas markets. Last year, Shaanxi Zhongqi's performance was the most prominent, with a year-on-year increase of more than 200%.

Quasi-heavy cards at home and abroad

Light trucks grow steadily

In 2008, the domestic medium card market continued to decline, with annual sales of 207,109 units, a year-on-year decrease of 12.51%. However, when these quasi heavy trucks (8-15 tons) were sluggish in the domestic market, they made gratifying achievements in overseas markets.

According to statistics from the Customs, in 2008, 38,078 trucks with a load of 5 to 14 tons were exported, a year-on-year increase of 43.7%. The demand for such models in overseas markets may be able to ease the pressure of the shrinking domestic market share of quasi heavy truck companies.

Although heavy trucks have the largest contribution to the export amount, the number of export champions is still dominated by light trucks. According to the export data in 2008, the export volume of diesel trucks under 5 tons was 100,981, an increase of 8.19% year-on-year, and the export value was 75,597,087,000 US dollars, an increase of 26.91% over the same period of last year. The average unit price was 7,487.74 US dollars, an increase of 17.31% over the same period of last year. Although the export price of bicycles has risen, the average unit price is still at a relatively low level compared with the prices of domestic medium and high-end light trucks. This shows that the export of light trucks in China is more oriented to developing countries and the products are also economical. Mainly.

Petrol truck fell overall

Since 2007, gasoline truck exports have declined. In 2008, this market fell even more completely. It is the unfavorable export of gasoline light trucks that makes the total truck export increase by only 4.09%. According to statistics, in 2008, the export volume of gasoline light trucks (including pickup trucks) below 5 tons decreased by 21.37% year-on-year, the export volume of 5-8 tons gasoline trucks decreased by 92.15%, and the gasoline trucks above 8 tons decreased by 81.19% year-on-year. Experts analyzed that the demand for diesel vehicles in overseas markets has become increasingly evident, and export companies have adjusted their product mix according to market demand. Overseas markets will continue to maintain this trend in the future.

Export situation is not optimistic

“From the export data of the last two months of 2008, China's auto export situation is not optimistic. Since the financial crisis erupted in May last year, with the spread of the crisis, Chinese auto exports have been affected by external markets since September. 11 Monthly and December were down 30.36% and 36.77% year-on-year, respectively. It is expected that the export figures for January 2009 will remain unoptimistic,” said Fu Peizhao. “According to what we have learned, companies currently generally reflect that there are no orders on the market, and In some overseas distribution outlets, there is also a situation of unsalable products, which is a detrimental factor for the automotive export market in the near future.”

However, some market participants also stated that Chinese companies can seize this market opportunity to improve their overseas service network and adjust the structure of their export products so as to lay a solid foundation for the market to “warm up”. The comparative advantage of China’s trucks is still in place. Once demand arises, it is still expected to achieve a good performance in overseas markets.
