Yang Jinguo won the special bravery medal at sea

The just-concluded 110th Board of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) announced the results of the 2013 IMO Maritime Special Bravery Award. China's government-nominated "Normally Steamed 11" round sailor Yang Jinguo and the United States government-nominated US Coast Guard Elizabethtown North Carolina flight station technicians Randy Haba and Daniel Todt were juxtaposed for the 2013 IMO Maritime Special Bravery Award medal.

This is the first time that the IMO has won the Special Sea Bravery Medal since the establishment of the award in 2006.

On March 15, 2012, the “Normal Steamship No. 11” and “Shunqiang 28” rounds collided in the Changshu section of the Yangtze River, Jiangsu Province. “Normally, the number 11 of the “Steaming” wheel” broke into the water and began to sink. Some vehicles on the steamship were deformed due to collision and one passenger was inside the truck. After the captain issued the abandon ship order, 32 other persons were quickly transferred to the rescue boat, in addition to trapped passengers. Seeing that the steamship had not yet completely sank, Yang Jinguo had been transferred to the rescue boat and jumped back to the sinking steamboat to try to rescue the trapped passengers. However, the steamboat suddenly accelerated and Yang Jinguo and the passenger sank into the river and sacrificed their precious lives.
