Perstorp and PTT Join Hands to Establish TDI Joint Venture

Swedish leading chemical manufacturer Perstorp and PTT Global Chemicals plan to establish a joint venture to produce and sell TDI and aliphatic isocyanate (IPDI, HDI & derivatives) products.

The joint venture will include the “Paint Additives” business unit of the former Perstorp Group in France and the United States. PTT and Perstorp accounted for 51% and 49%, respectively.

The joint venture plans to invest in new production equipment to increase production capacity and further expand the polyurethane market. The joint venture will increase research and development efforts, increase operational efficiency to further increase competitiveness, and increase market returns.

Isocyanates are used as curing agents for paints, as raw materials for elastomers and foam products. Foam products are mainly used for mattresses, bedding and packaging, and TDI is the raw material for foam. HDI & derivatives are mainly used in the automotive, equipment overhaul, plastic & wood coatings, transportation, aviation, leather and adhesives.
